  • The mini-coaching session with my Uber driver
  • The Bachelor-themed date Mike planned for us
  • Stepping into new levels of visibility in business
  • Life lessons on fear and doubt

Quotes:

  • When fear comes up, observe it, let it be present
  • Trying to pretend your fear isn’t there doesn’t help anything
  • When you feel fear, find others to watch or cheerlead
  • With each turn, the fear got exponentially less
  • Fear is a natural part of life and once you jump the net will appear
  • Asking for what you need is going to feel scary, but the more you do it the easier it’ll feel
  • In the moments of fear or doubt know you can take a little jump to move toward what you want and see what happens

068: Heart to Heart on Setting Goals

Heart to Heart on Goal Setting #innercritic #relationshippodcast #personaldevelopment #howtosetgoals #howtomakegoals #howtokeepgoals#settinggoals #goalsetting #goalsettingtips #tipsforsettinggoals

This month’s heart to heart is on setting goals. I chose this topic because this time of year can bring goals and resolutions to the front of our mind. But I had no idea where this episode would go or what would be on my heart when I recorded it. It’s a good one!

In this episode, I give insight into how to make goals differently – the kind that releases the heavy catabolic energy that can be associated with setting goals and helps you see goals in a new way where they’re fun and expansive.

The doors to my new online community are going to open on Valentine’s Day (Thursday, February 14, 2019). The community won’t be opening up to the public until later this year, but as podcast listeners, you’re a part of a select group who will be invited to be part of this community in this first phase. Questions:

  • I love goal setting! Each year I write out my 3 biggest goals and then break them down into smaller goals – quarterly and monthly, so that I don’t get overwhelmed with how big my goals are. I’m not always great at staying on track with them though, what’s your favorite tip for keeping and achieving goals? – @luxandvitadsn
  • How do you set a goal and stay detached from the outcome? – @joanna_platt

Links:

Journal Prompts:

  • Does this goal make me feel expansive?
  • What would make this goal feel more meaningful and aligned?
  • Do a rough draft of your goals list. Put them all down on paper in a big, long list, and then edit out the ones that don’t feel right.

Quotes:

  • Your goals need to mean something to you
  • Give yourself permission to adjust or pivot along the way
  • Don’t make your goals from a place of ‘should’
  • Your goal should be something that pulls you
  • Make goals that are meaningful to you
  • You’re allowed to be goal-less
  • Be very discerning and intentional about what you put on your goal list
  • Goal setting should come from intuition and soul first before our minds
  • Vision boards give you something to move towards
  • When you set a goal, one of two things happens: you get the result you wanted or the lesson you needed @jameswedmore
  • Set the goal and then play full out @jameswedmore
  • Let your goals be a tool for growth
  • Make the journey the focus and not the end result
  • Set goals that are expansive

Meet Tracy

Tracy Bech is a multi-passionate serial entrepreneur and recovering burnout-a-holic. Having started, run, and sold 2 successful businesses, she now is dedicated to using brain science to teach women entrepreneurs how to level up without the overwhelm. Known among her peers as a “master manifester”, Tracy has always embraced the oft-cliche “power of positive thinking” as a main tool in reaching goals. Now, using science-based materials, Tracy is able to teach the analytical pieces of what may seem a “woo woo” practice.

Her past businesses include a 6 figure web development agency, a 7 figure e-commerce retail website and in addition to running Good Path Consulting, she is also the founder and inventor of peeLUX – a device that allows women to more easily use the ladies’ room while wearing shapewear.

She’s also a wife and mom of 2 kids living in the quaint resort town of Hood River, Oregon. When not typing at light speed, binge listening to podcasts or speed reading personal development books she is most likely out for a run or bike ride or scheming an epic family vacation.

This month’s heart to heart questions and advice on the holidays come from Shannon, Alicia, and Brit. In this episode of Love Always, Jo I’ll be answering questions about letting go of old/building new traditions, managing family expectations, preparing your energy for the holidays, and anxiety around end of the year reflections.

Journal Prompts:

  • If you were 100% comfortable with where you are in life, how would you show up this holiday season?
  • Where can you lower your expectations for this holiday season?

Quotes:

  • Allow space for your inner child to grieve past Christmases
  • Deep down people understand that things change
  • Remind your inner critic that even if you choose to go your own way, you’ll still be loved
  • You get to choose where you go or don’t go for the holidays
  • You’re not responsible for making other people understand you
  • Don’t forget to hold space for yourself
  • You get to choose where your power goes – Brit
  • You are not responsible for anyone else’s energy or happiness
  • Become an audience member in the holidays rather than the director
  • Enjoy your day on purpose

Questions & Advice

  • Shannon – I struggle with the balance between letting go of old traditions (that are no longer possible due to people passing away) and creating new traditions. How do I get excited about building new rituals when the feelings of sadness about lost traditions feel especially strong this time of year?
  • Alicia Bruce – Struggle: Managing family expectations. Sometimes we would love to stay home for the holidays and just enjoy them together with our dog, but our families always expect that we will visit every year. The times we have tried to say “no, we want to do our own thing and stay home (not traveling) for the holidays”, we are met with guilt and disappointment.
  • Advice/insight from Brit: On dealing with family members with interesting energy
  • Brit: As an empath, how do you prepare for the holidays?
  • Joanna: A friend and I were talking about how this time of year causes anxiety because you naturally reflect at this time of year about where you are and where you “should” be. Do you have advice on this?
