Happy Weekend! Here are some links for your weekend reading – curled up on the couch with a cup of coffee or tea, I hope. Enjoy!

A colleague shared this article about the book/author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. And when two other people recommended it in the next two days, I went out and bought it. Totally up my alley.

Had a hard time deciding between these two wallpapers.

Three posts from A Cup of Jo:

  1. definitely going to use this idea to help plan our weekly menu
  2. I love her beauty uniform posts but this one in particular stood out to me
  3. I really want to discuss this post

I really enjoyed this podcast episode – listened to most of it during jury duty this week

I found the perfect time to go to the grocery store: Thursday night at 8:45. Just got back from a super quick trip to pick up a few things for breakfast on Saturday morning and it was a dream! There was no one in the store so I was able to zip around, getting the few things I needed — and a few extras that caught my eye. My good mood probably helped with the zipping!

Happy weekend! Some links for you:

A super indulgent smoothie I drank four times this week

I love taking myself on dates so I loved this post about a girl who dated herself as a rebound (Good share, Colleen!)

I always say “sometimes saying no to others means saying yes to yourself” so I love my friend Jess’ idea to capture your no’s. And check out her email course, 30 Days of Gutsy, too!

Love this idea for connecting with friends!

I’ve been thinking about making these pancakes again for a couple weeks now…maybe this weekend?

And a quote from a book I’m reading:

Loneliness is an invitation to recognize that our hearts have more capacity to love. The same way hunger pangs tell us when we need nourishment and energy, loneliness is our heart’s way of encouraging us to engage.” ~Shasta Nelson, Friendships Don’t Just Happen

three favorite things

Pictured above, three of my favorite things: my husband reading, our comfy bed, and the big windows in our apartment. I’m so glad my weekend will be filled with all three. We’re going to Annapolis for a night to celebrate our anniversary and then we’ll spend the rest of the weekend relaxing at home.

We took our go-to chocolate chip pancake recipe to the next level with this.

New snack this week. Just what I’ve been looking for. Sweet, satisfying, protein-filled, and comfy. But also relatively healthy.

I agree with everything in this post about finding your purpose or calling.

You know I love stuff like this. Just happy. So so happy.

I love Natalie’s definition of style. Her blog has definitely changed the way I think about beauty and style. I’ve also been thinking a lot about the capsule wardrobe she mentioned here.

If you’re dreading going back to your job after this long weekend, check out this program if you want help and encouragement to make a change.

I love nothing more than relaxing and reading on a Saturday morning. Here are some links for your weekend. Enjoy!

1. I love The Good Life Project by Jonathan Fields and I really enjoyed this episode.

2. As someone that had the privilege to receive this, I can totally agree that this is one of the best things you can give a friend.

3. You know how much we love Jessica’s recipes. You can bet your bottom dollar we’re buying this.

4. A four word phrase that might change your life (I definitely want to try this)

5. I love this reflection about why the writer yells at her kids.

This is my second weekend in a row with no plans! I’m totally loving it and for once, letting myself relish in not having plans and not putting pressure on myself to make any or do a million things. Have a relaxing weekend!

A Facebook friend shared this article with the caption “a must-read for educators.” I think it’s a must-read for everyone.

This op-ed has been circulating for a while but I hadn’t actually read it until this week. I was chatting with a co-worker about busyness and how I don’t want to answer “Good. Busy.” when someone asks me how I am. No kidding, within 20 minutes this link showed up in my inbox…sent my a former co-worker. So weird. I read it. It’s worth a read. The whole thing.

Two blog posts with truths that almost brought me to tears: an open letter to parents from a non-parent and one on getting married at 23.

On Love Always, Jo this week:

A reader sent this video in response to my post on gratitude. The student talks about how vulnerable saying thank you is. It’s so true. I was really hesitant to publish my post on Thursday because it made me feel really vulnerable–what if I interpreted the my colleagues the wrong way? what if this is stupid and silly? Anyway, enough about me, watch the video.

cookies and coffee

It’s the Saturday before Christmas! I’m going to be enjoying time at home in PA for the week and will be taking a break from posting until after the New Year. In the meantime, I hope to do a lot of great blog planning and make some changes to the site to make it a little easier to navigate. Also in the meantime, I plan to soak up family time, eat at our hometown favorites, and soak up more family and friend time.

Here are some links to keep you busy while I’m away…

Recipes

This pasta was so so good (and so quick). Is definitely going to be a go-to in our house.
I love pancakes and I love chocolate and lemon together so I made this ricotta pancake recipe the first chance I had. It did not disappoint.

I made a new kind of Christmas list this year…and I’m getting really excited to see what Santa brings me!

What should I be reading over break? I think a lot of my favorite bloggers will slow down so I’ll be looking for something to read…do share!

snow covered rooftops.jpg

It’s a snow day–for everyone in DC but me and my colleagues. I can’t believe the university I work for isn’t closed. Seriously, I can’t believe it. On the bright side: I’m glad I have new Hunter boots to wear and I’m taking this as permission to wear leggings to work 🙂

If you’re enjoying the beautiful snow fall from the comfort of your couch–maybe in your robe while drinking coffee with your Christmas mug (like Mike), here are some links to enjoy while you relax. Enjoy!

The salad version of comfort food. We’ve made this twice now. I’m obsessed.

As a book lover, I love this idea for a Secret-Santa.

Should is a warning sign. Yes.

Completely agree with this video about the best workout.

You’ve got to download this wallpaper. I couldn’t agree more.

Stumbled on Elizabeth’s blog this weekend and am fascinated by her 30 Days of Hair Series. I’ve watched beach waves and blowout and can’t wait to watch more. I’ve recently been getting into beauty more and these hair tutorials are perfect. Not only does she have videos, she has a list of exactly the products she’s using right on the post. Brilliant! Don’t you love when exactly what you need/want shows up at exactly the right time?  I do.

Pretty sure this is the best Buzzfeed ever. As a huge Home Alone fan, I literally laughed out loud.

This question is radical and will change the way you think about goals. (Click this link and watch the video.) And then, if you’re in the DC area and want to be in a soulful book group that really gets into how you want to answer this question, email me. I’d love to have you.

Coffee and cinnamon buns

Happy Friday! Hope you had a good week. I did. I’m looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend before we hit the road for Thanksgiving travel next week. I’m also looking forward to celebrating my birthday with Mike on Sunday. I’m not sure what the plans are–it’s a surprise!

Alright, onto the love!

1. I loved this honest post about starting a business. Good things to keep in mind.

2. A friend sent me this post yesterday about the question you should ask yourself. It was a perfectly timed read for me.

3. I can definitely relate to this post from Emily about how life is messy sometimes.

4. We made this soup for dinner last Friday…mmm…mmm…mmm. So good, so easy, and quick too!

5. I haven’t been making it to the gym recently so I was excited to see this at-home workout Kristen shared in one of her Friday Favorites posts. I’ve done it twice and it’s a good one!

Have a great weekend!

 cup of tea

Happy Friday! Here are some links for your lazy Saturday morning:

1. My sister, Chrissy, sent me this post titled “How to Talk to Your Daughter About Her Body” and said it made her think of me. (I’m honored.) I’ve thought a lot about the topic of body image and my future daughter(s) and I love what Sarah‘s got to say on the topic. You’ll be surprised to learn that she’s a 20-year old college student!

2. I loved these lines from my friend Carissa‘s post on Yoganonymous. “If someone decides to leave, resist the urge you might feel to judge. Sometimes, silence and space is simply too overwhelming, too vulnerable.”

3. Sometimes decisions can take forever where I work. I appreciated this article about clarity and decision making.

Two posts you may have missed on Love Always, Jo this week:

Enjoy your weekend!

There is nothing better than waking up on Saturday morning, getting coffee, and reading. Each Friday, I’ll share some links that I think are worthy of falling into that precious Saturday morning time.

1. We’re heading on vacation with a group of friends this weekend so this post on traveling in a group caught my eye. I definitely agree with tips 5 and 6, even for life in general.

2. Mmm, mmm, mmm. This may have to be the first recipe we make when we get back from vacation.

3. This post about writing caught my eye. It’s definitely one I want to re-read at some point.

4. Jess Lively wrote a post on praying and relationships this week. Though I’m a little nervous to try it, I definitely think it would be immensely powerful.

5. I’ve definitely been thinking about how vacations fit in with life, how I want to spend my vacation doing simple things I wish I did all the time in my “normal” life. I even wrote a newsletter about the vacations you daydream about and how to use that inform your life.  This post about escaping to reality versus escaping from reality made me think even more.
